These six small paintings are an extension of my water series, and were inspired by images of Antarctica.
Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922) who made over four journeys to Antarctica describes the ice bergs he sees in his book "The Voyage of the James Caird" like this:
"Swans of weird shape pecked at our planks, a gondola steered by a giraffe ran foul of us, which much amused a duck sitting on a crocodile's head. Just then a bear, leaning over the top of a mosque, nearly clawed our sail.... All the strange, fantastic shapes rose and fell in stately cadence with a rustling, whispering sound and hollow echoes to the thudding seas...."
I was inspired by the color of the blue, the translucency and the shapes. I usually use images for inspiration, but paint without an image in front of me.
Each painting is 9 x 12 ", acrylic and pencil on canvas. Available to purchase: $75/each. Please email me if interested.
